The Not Dot Shop, located at 127 Main Street in the beautiful village of Geneseo, is a quaint little store where you are treated to a surprisingly fun treasure hunt each and every time that you venture in the front door.

The name, which means, no one thing does one thing, typifies the store's philosophy. Grown from a desire to reuse, repurpose and recycle, the store offers a variety of items from pop can top bracelets to valuable antiques.

The members each bring with them a unique vision allowing us to offer an enormous array of items for every person and personality. As a co-op store, each member is an owner and takes pride in their space and the store while offering a tremendously good price for higher-end home furnishings and personally made items such as jewelry, scarves, wine charms and even sweet treats.

Not Dot Shop will take consignment items and has periodic workshops highlighting an artisan's craft.

I came up with the idea for the store 10 years ago when I wanted to have an avenue for my creativity and my desire to reuse and repurpose, hence the name, Not Dot Shop- no one thing does one thing was a mantra I had heard in my office furniture business when one manufacturer started manufacture ring chairs out of plastic pop bottles. I liked the idea of sustainability. The co-op came to me as I was renovating the space and I realized that it would allow a greater diversity of product and help keep overhead and costs down ensuring a better chance of long term success. Little did I know we would enjoy such longevity, create a family of members that have become close friends and give the community such a wonderful place to find a hidden treasure or just a chance to browse and enjoy the many surprises we continually have to offer.

A former NOTDOTTER friend suggested I join the shop 4 1/2 years ago. Unknown to me at the time Marcia was actually my husband's cousin! How nice to know more family and share memories. I love to upcycle and recycle to create new and unique items. I specialize in string art creations, many on old barn wood. Add horseshoes or old beer caps and coasters to highlight old items. There's grapevine pumpkins and corn husk wreaths. I keep a patriotic section year round with cork and bottle cap USA flags and string art armed forces .I'm retired so the shop keeps me active and productive and the customers are wonderful to interact with. The members are all sensitive caring people, and new friendships have formed.

I have been a member of Not Dot Shop since the spring of 2012. I have enjoyed being part of such a wonderful shop and becoming friends with the other women who are part of the shop. I am a portrait artist and have been for 45 years and sell my paintings, prints and tee shirts with horses and dogs printed on them at the shop. I also sell handmade hats, purses, gloves and other accessories. You will find a good selection of new and vintage jewelry in my booth as well as other special gift items. I guess you could say I am the resident artist/painter and anytime something needs to be painted like the door or a sign they call on me.

I joined the group shortly after the store opened. I kept seeing the ad in the PennySaver for the store but it was closed by the time I came through Geneseo from work. One day I left work early and made in. I was amazed at what the store had to offer. It had everything I wanted to decorate my home with! On my second visit I got up the courage to ask if my handmade cards would fit into the store offerings. No one made homemade cards so I was given a chance. I will forever be grateful to Marcia for giving me a chance to put my craft out for customers to purchase.

We are a family at the Not Dot Shop. We celebrate , we cry, we laugh but most of all we care about each other.

It’s nice to getting to know our customers and we are happy to help them shop when they ask for our help. All of the events that go on in Geneseo are so much fun. It gives us another reason to celebrate our customers.

Congratulations to my fellow Not Dotters.

Marcia and I have been friends for over 25 years. We share a love for decor and design. When she explained her concept for this new business with the eclectic name I was totally on board. I recruited a couple of friends and a favorite family member and here we are—-ten years later.

Favorite thing about NOT DOT Shop?
Hands down—-the opportunity to meet some wonderful people. Parents of college students who become “regulars”. Over the course of four years they return to see us whenever they are in town. The “local” regulars. Loyal customers from our surrounding small towns and villages who continue to send new customers our way. The “travelers”. People passing through on a day trip, people visiting our area’s natural wonders for a weekend, people who have made a special trip from somewhere else to visit the NOT DOT Shop. It is great fun to chat with all of them while they enjoy their time at NOT DOT. The “NOTDOTTERS”. We are a rare breed of diverse personalities, opinions, and ideas who support each other and enjoy each other. We DO have fun.

I've been with the Shop since we opened except for a few months in Atlanta. I have always loved antiques, decorator items and collectibles. I worked with my Dad over the years in his Auction business. My area features fine glassware, china, pottery, small antique furniture, pictures, jewelry, handcrafted scarves, books... I am extremely grateful for my partnership with so many wonderful ladies at the Shop. So happy to be part of local business in Geneseo.

I started with NDS as a frequent shopper. It seemed that no matter what a was looking for, be it a gift or something for myself or a household decorating idea or purchase, it was always there! Sometimes I didn't know what exactly I needed...but I would always find inspiration, the perfect treasure and a friendly staff. Fast forward a few years and I was in the shop doing some holiday shopping when I told a friendly face behind the counter how much I loved the shop! She suggested that I think about becoming a vendor since there was an opening.

I have worked in Geneseo for over 30 years in management and insurance and love all this charming community has to offer so why wouldn't I want to be a part of this wonderful shop? A few weeks later I signed a lease with a friend and started an amazing business venture.

I am the staff "essential oiler" and love to repurpose, shop for an array of country, household & vintage gifts and treasures and share them with other treasure hunters. I am proud to say I am coming up on my 4 year anniversary with NDS and always look forward to working and hearing stories of what brought someone through our doors, how far they traveled to get here, who they are traveling with or are visiting or maybe help them find the perfect gift.

I am the newest member of the NOT DOT family. About a year ago I had wandered into NOT DOT to do some shopping. I ended up joining a wonderful group of women, the NOTDOTTERS! I remember the day a fellow coworker told me what NOT DOT stood for, "No one thing, does one thing" and I thought what an amazing name that captures the essence of the shop! It has been a dream come true, having been welcomed into the NOT DOT family. I have been crafting for many years and to find an outlet to share my artwork with others has been wonderful. My booth has a variety of handmade items from crochet hats, fingerless gloves made from repurposed sweaters, Halloween pumpkins made from repurposed velvet and chenille, to Christmas crafts, as well as many other gift items. I love interacting with the community, our customers are simply the best. From repeat customers to first timers, it is always a pleasure to see a friend walk through the door. The ladies I work with are so warm and welcoming. We are all truly friends, sharing our lives journey with one another. Congratulations on 10 amazing years NOT DOT SHOP!

Ten years ago I got a call from my cousin Charleen asking if I was interested in joining a new shop that was going to open in Geneseo. From a very young age, my Mom and I bought and sold antiques and collectibles, and Charleen thought that my spot in the shop could include many of these treasures. With very little arm twisting I agreed and became one of the original members of the Not Dot Shop. I started with a simple little area in the shop, which has now expanded into two different areas. One is strictly antiques and collectibles, and the other is filled with a little bit of everything!

I have really enjoyed engaging with the customers, finding out if they are students, parents, local shoppers or visitors from afar, and explaining that we are so eclectic because we are a co-op with between 12-14 members.

It’s been fun watching the evolution of this shop, and the many members’ current and past have become friends and family. Ten years and counting on Main Street in Geneseo, way to go Not Dot Shop!!

I have been a sales member at Not Dot Shop for 5 1/2 years. I initially sold antiques and housewares that I purchased at yard and estate sales. Since then I changed professions and became a Real Estate Agent covering 5 counties as well as work as a sales associate at Home Goods. I think I am better able to merchandise my space to make it more shop able with my 3 years experience there. My husband gifted me a CRICUT which has enabled me to make signs and wall art. My husband and I moved to Livonia 36 years ago where we raised our son and daughter and have 3 granddaughters and a grandson.

I joined the not dot family over three years ago! I share a spot with a friend who asked me if I was was interested. I had been in the store couple of time and was never disappointed! There is such a variety of items, a little something for everyone. I enjoyed making crafts items for the different seasons and use recycled items whenever I can!
